There are times in life when things can just get you down.  For the last 6 weeks I have been battling with what started out as a head cold and turned into a sinus infection.  Unfortunately for me any type of infection can have an affect on my MS, so the last 6 weeks have been a bit of a struggle.  In saying that I have still had to race at two UCI events and our Nationals and I have come away from those races with some pretty satisfying results.  I think I was able to do this because of my positive outlook.

But the last 2 weeks have really tested my resilience as I haven’t been able to do much training and I hate that.  It has however allowed me to catch up on other things in my life and given me more time to be mindful and deal with things ‘in the moment’ instead of trying to do a thousand things at once.  It has also taught me that sometimes we just need to slow down!

The last 3 days I have been back on the trike with today’s ride being the best I have felt in a long time.  It felt wonderful to be out there not thinking about anything else but taking in the beautiful sunshine, albeit a bit chilly, greeting fellow riders with a smile and being happy to be over the worst of it.

Looking on the positive side of not being able to train as hard as normal, it has really made me realize how much I missed riding and how much I love it!  I’m now looking forward to getting back into the full swing of training to get ready for a World Cup in Germany and the World Championships in Switzerland in July.
