What an amazing week I have had and it all revolved around women!  I certainly didn’t plan it this way but I think it was the world’s way of giving me a message. This week I learnt that as women we must celebrate our accomplishments, be happy with who we are in body and soul and to take destiny into our own hands because our fate lies within us, we only have to be brave enough to see it.

My week started off at Australia Post HQ for a ‘Celebrating Women’ function.  This project was conceived by Dr. Kirstin Ferguson last Christmas.  She asked for women around the world to answer 4 questions.

  1. Describe what you do without using your title.
  2. What did you want to be when you were in school?
  3. Use 3 words to describe yourself.
  4. Who do you hope to inspire and why?

I was number 401!  Kirstin has made this a year long project and has celebrated 2 women per day from more than 20 countries.  If you want to read about some amazing women then click here Celebrating Women.

So Monday night I met some absolutely amazing women, they are your average every day women who just happen to do incredible things!  I learnt on Monday night that every single woman is a role model to someone else and we should remember that means ALL of us!  Thank you Kirstin for this amazing project!

Thursday morning I went to the funding launch of ‘This Girl Can Victoria’ a program being launch by Vic Health.  I have agreed to become the Cycling Australia Ambassador for this program because I am passionate about my sport and I want to help raise the profile of women’s sport in Victoria.  I also want to encourage women and girls to get out there and get active.  It is so important for not only our physical health but also our mental health.

To cap off the week I headed down to Queenscliff in Victoria for a girls weekend.  Every year 6 of us try to get away at some point during the year to have a relaxing, reconnecting weekend.  Most of the time we are able to make it work but invariably there is someone who can’t.  Well this weekend the 6 of us were all able to make it!

What a great weekend full of riding, walking, eating, drinking, debate, belly laughs, hugs and pure joy at spending time with wonderful friends.  I don’t know what I would do without my girlfriends, they have been there in the bad times and the good times, through tears and laughter.  They are women I would do anything for because I know that they would do anything for me.  I am so lucky to have these women in my life who I respect and love.

So I want to leave you with this message…Celebrate your female friends and acknowledge the contribution they have made to not only your life but the universe.  We are all wonderful human beings and we need to remind ourselves of that sometimes.
