Wow what a fabulous way to end our stay in South Africa than with a little sightseeing! This morning most of the team were treated to a flight in our hosts light plane like I had at the start of our time here. Brian took each person that wanted to up for a ten minute flight around the Cato Ridge area. Each and every one of them who went up came back to ground with a smile on their face.
Around 10am we all got into the vehicles and drove back to the area near where our Time Trial was held to a town called Howick. It was here that we saw the Howick Falls and then were able to do some shopping from local vendors who had some amazing locally made goods. We had a bit of lunch and then headed back towards where we were staying.
Only 20 minutes from our accommodation was the Tala Private Game Reserve and it was hear that we all boarded what I can only describe as an open air truck with a canopy roof and head out on the 7000 acres of land hoping to get a glimpse of some of the animals of Africa. Boy were we in for a treat! It was incredible…we had a driver named Lonely and he had been a ranger on the reserve for the last 19 years of the 25 that it has been running. A very knowledgable man who was able to tell us quite a bit about all the animals that we saw. What did see were Giraffe, Zebra, Ostritch, Wildebeest, White Rhino, Warthog, Vervet Monkey’s, Impala, Eland and Hippo! It was a fabulous day of up close and personal with these animals.
And to finish off our South African adventure we had a beautiful sunset for our last night here! Next stop Melbourne, via Dubai!
