It is almost finally upon us! Tomorrow I get to go out there and give it my all! I’m ready and almost feel like jumping out of my skin while waiting to race. That is a good sign, it’s like I felt in London, so that is great.
It is also great to see Bianca, my roommate, excited about racing and I think she has a great chance of giving her Canadian competitor, Shelley Gautier, a run for her money. I know Shelley as we are from the same home town, Toronto. Shelley has been riding for a long time and has never been beaten, but after watching her train, I think Bianca has it in her!
We had one last hit out on the course this afternoon and it is really a good course for me, so I guess that is why I am so looking forward to tomorrow. It was amazing, the course was closed to traffic but the locals were out in force, cheering and ringing cow bells! There was even a large number of daycare children sitting on a lawn who cheered loudly at me, so when I went around for a second time I stopped, said “Bonjour”, they all stood on their feet and yelled back “Bonjour”, then I said “Comment alley-vous?” And they replied “Bien Merci”. I then said “Cheer for Australia?” And I got a big yell “YES!” I had a couple of high fives and I rode off, it was so much fun!
It was extremely windy and if it is like that tomorrow it will really work to my advantage. Unfortunately one of the Canadian Female trike T2 riders had a crash yesterday and won’t be able to take part, so there are only four of us racing the World Cup, hopefully she will be back for the World Champs. I am 3rd off at 11:03 am, so will be chasing, which I love!
Today our hand cyclists raced the time trial, results below:
Stuart Tripp – H4 – 6th
Nigel Barley – H3 – 3rd, bringing home Australia’s first medal
Michael “Squizz” Taylor – H2 – 13th
Craig Parsons – H1 – 8th
Tomorrow on the day, in the moment, in this place, conditions will be
perfect for me no matter what they are. It’s just about taking pride in how far I have come and having faith in how much farther I can go!
