Demanding, rude and always right customers, the job of Customer Service can be a tough gig.  I don’t know if I could do it…service with a smile!  So why am I writing a blog about customer service?  Well the last 24 hours I have had the best customer experience I think I have ever had and it got me thinking…

Over the last couple of years I have definitely be spoiled with the travelling I have done.  And to be honest most of it has been in Economy Class, but a fair bit of my travel has also been in Business Class.  I have been able to do this through upgrades using points and also by winning Gold in the Paralympics I was able to travel home in Business (one of the perks of winning gold).

The Business Class has been with different airlines and most recently with Emirates.  I must say that it has been amazing service from all the staff involved, from the check in, boarding and on flight staff, they all seem to really enjoy their jobs.  It got me thinking about how wonderful it has been to have people welcome you, offer assistance, have a smile on their face and genuinely want to make sure you have the best experience.

The cynical side of me started thinking that maybe this was because I was in Business Class, but looking over at the Economy Check in, the staff were the same, smiling, welcoming and truly looked like they were happy being there.  I think sometimes customer service has to be a two way street, we as customers should be happy and smiling because the staff have a hard job…appeasing us the customer!  I don’t think I could do their job, could you?

Too often I have had bad service from staff at different venues who looked like they couldn’t care at all for your custom, even looking like they wish you would go elsewhere. But I will always say thank you, smile and tell them to have a good day, no matter what the service is like. What makes them different from those that can smile, help and thank you for shopping or travelling with them…job satisfaction?  I had a friend recently tell me that although she didn’t make top dollar she loved what she did as a job.  Too often we stay in jobs that we hate going to day in and day out, maybe it’s just that we need a job or because we ‘make good money’.  I know I couldn’t do a job that I hated going to!

Getting back to my flight with Emirates, I have definitely been spoiled this trip. With the new configuration in the A380 planes on Emirates not only was I able to sleep 7 hours, but had a high definition flat screen tv and my very own mini bar (alcohol free) but there was also a communal bar at the back of Business Class where you could mingle with other passengers.  So that made my flights an enjoyable, amazing experience!

The staff I dealt with for both of my flights were incredible and I would love to think that I never have to go back to Economy or “Cattle Class” (as it is sometimes called), but unfortunately I know that I will be back there in the near future and I look forward to the same excellent service that I had on my last trip!

    Hey Carol, so glad to read of your positive experience. We tend to only comment when the experience is not so positive. A friendly smile and a hello cost nothing & can make soneone else’s day just that bit better

      Hi Lyn, so true. I’m tired of hearing of people’s bad experiences and no one talking about the good ones! Kudos to everyone that made my experience so magical!
