Merry Christmas!
I’m not sure what it is about this Christmas, but I just can’t seem to get into the celebration of it. I love Christmas but I feel there is something different about this Christmas and I think it is that Jack won’t be here for it. He loved opening all the presents by just ripping the paper and trying to eat it! So it is sad to think that we won’t have that this year.
In the last couple of weeks Russ and I have also lost a couple of friends as well, both very sad and although it would have been sad at any time of the year around Christmas it just seems to heighten it.
I have fond memories of Christmas growing up with our entire family on my mom’s side getting together. There were 6 granddaughters and we would always put on the play ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’. My goodness what fun most of us had, although my youngest cousin Marg-Rheta had to be all 12 reindeer running past the front window of whoever’s house we were at! And boy that could be cold for her!
I received my first dog – Casey – from Santa at the age of 7. My sister Cynthia and I were up early (probably way too early) to see what Santa had left us. There under the tree was a big white box with holes poked in the top and our names on it ~ To Carol and Cindy, From Santa! WOW it was so big, what could it be? As I went to open it for us the box moved…I wasn’t about to touch it!
About an hour later our mom and dad got up and were very surprised to see that we hadn’t opened the big white box and enquired as to why. My response to them was “are you kidding that box moved!” What an amazing surprise when this tiny black Lab/Cocker Spaniel was pulled out of the box! Casey was with us for 18 years and thinking back he gave us so many good memories.
Our Christmas’ were always around family and although we have lost a few members of that family all these years later, most of the Canadian arm will get together at some point, except for Aunty Marjorie and my niece Lea who live west of the rest of the family.
So wherever you are and whoever you are celebrating with, no matter what your faith I hope you have a wonderful day to celebrate with family…the most precious people in the world (and they don’t have to be blood relatives)! Enjoy your day, be grateful for what you have and give someone a hug who may just need it!
