Performance is Contagious

Have you ever noticed how one person’s drive, success, or effort can inspire others to step up? It happens in sports, workplaces, and even in everyday life. When we see someone pushing their limits, achieving something remarkable, or simply showing up with a strong work ethic, we’re often compelled to follow suit.

Think about kids—if one child starts running faster, climbing higher, or mastering a skill, others quickly try to match them. It’s human nature. We mirror what we see. The same principle applies to adults. When we’re surrounded by high performers—whether they’re athletes, business leaders, or creatives—it sparks something in us. We start believing in what’s possible, and suddenly, we find ourselves leveling up.

But it works both ways. Just as positive performance can be contagious, so can mediocrity. If the energy around us is stagnant, uninspired, or negative, it’s easy to fall into that pattern, too. That’s why it’s so important to be mindful of who we surround ourselves with. Are we in an environment that pushes us to be better? Or one that allows us to settle? Think about what I wrote 3 weeks ago ‘Who do you need in your world?’

The best part? You can be the spark. Your effort, attitude, and achievements have the power to influence those around you. Whether it’s in sport, work, or life, leading by example can set off a chain reaction of excellence.

So, the next time you witness someone pushing their limits, take it as a challenge. Let their performance be the fuel for your own. And in doing so, you just might inspire the next person in line.

Because performance isn’t just personal—it’s contagious.
