It’s Never Too Late

My life has been a journey filled with twists, challenges, and reinventions. Over my 63 years, I’ve gone from policing to moving across the world, from business to an unexpected diagnosis of MS, and finally to a career in Para Sport. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: it’s never too late to start something new.

When I went to my first Paralympics at the age of 51, I could hardly believe I was there. And then, at 60, I found myself back at my third Paralympic Games, proving once again that age is no barrier when passion and resilience are involved. Each step, each challenge, reminded me that new beginnings don’t come with an expiration date.

As children, we are fearless. Learning to walk, we stumble hundreds of times, but that never stops us. We laugh, cry, and keep getting up, free from the fear of failure. Yet as adults, we become cautious, hesitant. We worry about looking foolish, or failing in front of others. That fear can make us give up before we even start.

But here’s the thing—it's never too late to try. Embracing a new challenge is less about excelling and more about discovering new parts of ourselves. Who knows, you might even surprise yourself with how good you are at something you’ve never tried. And even if you’re not an expert right away, the real victory lies in the experience, the joy, and the courage it takes to step outside your comfort zone.

Life has so much to offer at every stage. So, let go of the “too late” mentality and make room for “why not now?” You might just fall in love with something new.
