3 Most Important Reasons For Being Positive

I often get questions after a talk about how I stay so positive. Well I have always believed that it is better to be positive than negative. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have my negative times, of course I do, but I really don’t like who I am when I am negative. I have found over the years that no one ever likes hanging around with someone who is constantly negative. To be honest it’s not about ‘how’ I stay positive but whether I ‘choose’ to be positive or not.

Being positive is definitely a choice we all can make. Even if I have had a bad day or something hasn’t gone quite as I planned I choose to find at least one positive in the day or the situation. I find that being positive in life leads to happiness. I do believe that there are a lot of good reasons for being positive but here are my top 3.

  • Your Health – choosing to be positive will help reduce your stress levels, it will give you more energy, help you sleep better which in turn will improve your coping skills, in order to deal with anything that life will throw at you. Overall it is great for your health as our minds can really make or break our bodies. If I had listened to that first doctor who had diagnosed me with MS then I certainly wouldn’t be doing the things I am, nor would I be feeling as healthy. That first doctor told me that my life as I knew it was over. He was right but he was thinking in a negative way and I like to look at it in a positive way. My life certainly is over, as I knew it, but it is so much better than I could have ever imagined and by thinking positively over the last 23 years of living with MS, that positivity has given me more healthy days than I could have ever imagined.

  • Your Motivation – a positive attitude leads you to be more motivated which then helps you to be more productive, gives you more courage, keeps your mind active and ultimately leads to success in whatever you attempt to do in life. I know for me if I didn’t have a positive attitude I wouldn’t have had the courage all those years ago to head to a Paralympic talent search day, which ultimately changed my life!

  • Your Relationships – choosing to live with a positive attitude will help not only your close personal relationships but those relationships with your business colleagues, your friends and your acquaintances. People will want to be around you because of your attitude and because of your positivity you will attract the same type of people into your life…others who are positive. With such good relationships around, you are bound to have a fulfilling life

So from today choose to think positively and believe in your abilities. Choose to be happy and smile more often, this too will help you be positive. And when something negative happens, think about what one positive thing you can learn from the situation, you will be amazed at how much that situation will teach you!

“Your attitude is like a box of crayons that colour your world. Constantly colour your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colours to the picture by including humour, and your picture begins to lighten up.” ~ Allen Klein
