Sitting In Silence
Lately I have noticed how noisy the world is, it never seems to stop! The other day I was trying to think of the last time I just sat in silence and to be honest I don’t remember. To sit with nothingness, no phone, no radio, no music, no television, no computer, no sound at all.
There are a number of studies that show that silence can stimulate brain growth, can reduce stress levels, can enhance sleep, lessen insomnia and relieve tension. So why do we want to continually have noise around us?
Some people feel they work better when listening to music or work around the noise of colleagues, but I know I have found that trying to finish a report or a piece of writing, this noise can be not only annoying and unhelpful but put my brain on another trajectory all together so that I never get it finished or it takes twice as long.
So sometime in the next week maybe give sitting in silence a try. Who knows it may help relieve any stress you may have, make you more creative, cultivate a bit of calmness to your day, make you feel more peaceful and help you to focus better on the tasks that you have to accomplish on that day.
